Exercise to many is a chore that needs to be done for hours a day in order to lose weight. Fortunately, there’s a way to change this notion forever.Exercise as a form of fitness or training should be a time of the day where you put yourself to the test, burn calories you may not have by sitting at your 9-5 day job, de-stress, build muscle, and lose excess fat. These are only a few benefits of daily exercise that many people don’t realize. While sitting on the couch and not moving seems like a way better idea than running on a treadmill, there is a way to look at fitness in a different way so you’ll WANT to exercise every single day.
I want you to look at fitness as a lifelong practice. It’s something that changes every day, challenges you and your body, and a lifelong process. For example, if you start to run outside, you can always challenge yourself to go faster and farther. Eventually you’ll be able to run without listening to music and having to stop. This is a huge sense of accomplishment that isn’t easy to get all the time. Be proud of yourself for finishing something you didn’t think possible and reward yourself for it (a delicious post-workout meal is the only motivation I need for finishing).
It’s also important to switch it up! Running is especially very hard on your legs, and doing any exercise without switching it up can be detrimental to your body. Plus, you’ll end up getting bored and not wanting to do it. There are so many different ways to workout that range from high to low intensity, which have so many benefits when combined. You don’t need to run 5km every day to have an effective workout. Here are a few options:
- Long walks
- Gym machines (ellipticals, high-inclined treadmills and spin bikes)
We should be practicing fitness to make ourselves and our bodies better as we age but we should also be having fun while we do it. The fact that we have to work for a healthy body should be a reason enough for you to be proud of what you’ve accomplished.
What’s your favourite form of fitness?
