The 5:2 Diet for Effective Fat Loss

Ever heard of the 5:2 diet? If you’re looking to jump start your new healthy lifestyle and shed some extra weight, maybe some intermittent fasting may be of interest to you. For those of you who aren’t quite sure what intermittent fasting is, it’s basically eating a normal diet with a short period of time where you decide to fast. While this trend isn’t necessarily for everyone (especially if you have current health patterns or disordered eating patterns), it can definitely be helpful and useful for some. This is solely because it is a way to easily lower calorie consumption.

Here’s how it works:

  • Eat normally for five days
    • I obviously wouldn’t recommend going crazy and having Pizza and take-out for each day, since those fasting days could be more harmful for your body and you will have a much harder time.
  • Restrict calorie intake to 500 – 600 calories for two days.
    • Generally the idea is 500 calories for women and 600 calories for men.

Seems pretty simple, right? Like I said, the idea isn’t to go crazy on your ‘normal’ eating days (like the photo above indicates – I just loved the picture), as the extra calories, fats, proteins, sugars, etc., will actually cause you to gain weight (duh). However, eating a relatively clean diet combined with some cheat meals and your days of intermittent fasting will help you consume less calories in the long run and shed any excess fat you’ve been wanting finally to get rid of without losing muscle mass!

If you’re having trouble thinking about how to POSSIBLY only eat 500 – 600 calories in a day, you can try juicing (this requires a juicer of course or a lot of $$$ if you plan to buy it pre-made), or you can find some great recipe’s here:

  1. Breakfast
  2. Lunch
  3. Dinner

I would recommend you try this diet for 3 – 4 weeks to see some results, if done properly and healthy. It’s so easy to do it wrong. The idea isn’t to binge and starve. This will cause a whole slew of problems both mentally and physically.
